Providing honest, professional, and market-informed editorial advice to aspiring authors.

American Writers Consultancy is proud to give writers an insider's understanding of what works and what doesn't about their manuscripts. We understand that authors have devoted valuable time and energy to their writing, and we believe that each deserves a thoughtful, sincere response from a publishing professional.

In today's increasingly competitive publishing world, editors and literary agents no longer have time to thoroughly assess or respond to unsolicited manuscripts. After a wait of many months, these manuscripts will usually be returned to their authors with no explanation beyond a form rejection letter. In contrast, AWC provides authors with a detailed assessment of their work, explaining the strengths, weaknesses, and commercial viability of each project. We also promise a quick response time, with our reports sent to authors within only a few weeks.

American Writers Consultancy works with authors of fiction, nonfiction, memoir, self-help, young adult and children's literature, and all other major literary categories, at any level of writing expertise in English. Our six- to fifteen-page reports directly address the key aspects of each manuscript -- such as the writing, plot, research, structure, characters, setting, and subject -- and offer clear advice appropriate to each unique project, ranging from general writing guidelines to specific suggestions for editorial improvements. When we consider a manuscript to be ready for publication, we utilize our extensive industry connections to help the author find an agent, at no extra charge to the author or the agency. For writers who aren't ready for representation, we help them understand why.

AWC hires only knowledgeable and savvy readers who have actively worked in the publishing industry in recent years. This is very different from most editorial service companies, which often consist of writers or writing teachers who do not necessarily have any insider knowledge of current trends in the publishing market, or of retired high-level editors who charge premium fees for their services and who haven't been contributing members of the industry in many years. AWC distinguishes itself by effectively translating the publishing industry for writers, and by understanding that hopeful authors are better served by affordable rates.

American Writers Consultancy aims to be an integral part of the writing world by offering a service that has largely disappeared from traditional publishing channels: helping authors find the best next step for their manuscripts, whether that be finding an agent, hiring an editor, revising further, self-publishing, or deciding it's time to move on to new projects.
